What is massage?

Simply put, massage is touch. There are many names for the different types, many ways of using the hands, feet, elbows, and knees to massage. But, basically, it’s all about bringing comfort and relief to the body through touch.

What can massage do for my horse?

Massage can help the body to function at its best by relieving muscular pain and stiffness. It can enhance muscle tone thereby improving performance. It can also promote and speed healing, restore flexibility and wholeness to the body, and speed the recovery from stressful life events such as competition and travel.

Massage can help also build trust and respect thereby creating a closer bond between you and your horse. It can also stimulate an interest in learning, calm nervous behaviors and improve the animal’s self-worth and general outlook. Massage can help your horse break through old patterns of movement and behavior leading to new options for easier movement and a more harmonious life.

Please remember: massage is not a panacea nor is it a replacement for good veterinary care. It is however, a wonderful adjunct to the care of a vet or chiropractor and is an important part of any animal's wellness program.

Which massage techniques do I use?

I have a wide variety of bodywork and massage techniques at my disposal. These include: Sports Massage, Swedish Massage, Shiatsu, Myofascial Release, Lymphatic Drainage, Acupressure, Energy Work, and Flower Essence therapy.

Do I do Equine Massage at Competitions Events?

You bet! However, I prefer to introduce a horse to massage before the event so that they (and you) can get the greatest benefit from the experience. Massage can be just the thing to help your horse recover from a difficult competition day or to help him loosen up for subsequent classes or events.

Here's what horse owners are saying about Sara's equine massage sessions

"Riding my Thoroughbred after one of Sara's massages was always a pleasure, he was so relaxed and willing." - J.B.

"It is wonderful to watch my horse, Annie, relax and "melt" during [her] massages...I love watching the change in the way [she] moves after her massage...there is clearly a smoother, ease of movement...." - Leah Soltar

"Sara's unique program is really refreshing, and can open the door to a fulfilling and lasting friendship between you and your horse. It's very pleasing to see the calming effect she has on the horses and how well they respond to her. I have complete faith in Sara...and would recommend her without hesitation." - Lisa Tarsi
