Welcome to my sound healing page for dogs! In 1999 I decided to add
sound healing to my massage and teaching practice. I felt it would be an
invaluable way to help animals that did not trust touch as a way to
soothe their bodies and minds. Healing with sound is an ancient
practice, extending back to the Egyptians, Greeks, Tibetans, Chinese,
Japanese, Australian aborigines, native Hawaiians, and some of the
native American cultures. In many cultures it has been used right
through to the present day. As I began to integrate it into my practice
I was amazed and delighted with the results. It has far exceeded my
expectations as a valuable healing tool.
By healing sound, I mean pure tones and harmonics produced by such
things as tuning forks, Tibetan singing bowls, bells, and cymbals,
gongs, drums, rattles, didgeridoos, and toning with voice. In my own
practice I use precision calibrated tuning forks, tingshaws (Tibetan
cymbals), Tibetan bells and my voice to produce healing sounds.
I began by integrating sound into my massages. Immediately, I noticed
that the animals enjoyed it and reached an even deeper level of
relaxation. Over the past months, I have used it more and more and have
seen remarkable results with the sounds applied on or near the body. For
tense and nervous animals, sound offers a wonderful new option for
soothing and relaxing as well as for building trust. For flighty animals
it can add grounding, helping them to concentrate better on their
lessons and competitions. For aged, dull, or lost animals it can bring a
sparkle back into their eyes and energy back to their bodies. |

Over the years, I have seen many dogs troubled by aches and pains. Low
back and shoulder soreness, arthritis, Hip Dysplasia, dislocated joints,
even strains and sprains can be chronic problems for many dogs. When an
animal is very protective of their body and refuses to tolerate touch
from a massage therapist (or even a family member) Acutonics may be the
answer. The soothing vibrations of an Acutonics treatment can create
both overall relaxation and a decrease in the pain and swelling in and
around a sore area of the body.
But Acutonics can do more than help an ailing dog feel better. It also
works extremely well for relaxing and grounding hyper-tense, nervous,
frightened, or overly active dogs. Puppies too! I have seen puppies who,
according to their owners, never sleep until very late at night, fall
peacefully asleep during a short session.
There are many reasons for a dog to be wary and tense. One such reason
is due to past abuse. Using Acutonics to help unapproachable and abused
dogs begin to relax and trust can be a valuable use of a sound healing
session. This was clearly demonstrated to me one afternoon with a small
Chihuahua
mix who was recently adopted by a one of my clients. The dog was a
serious fear-biter who would allow only her owner to approach her
without growls and the threat of a bite. One day this little dog shared
a sound session with another animal I was working on. By this I mean
that she hovered nearby, absorbing the sound, although she was not the
focus of the treatment. Afterwards, as I sat talking with the owner, the
little dog came up to me and
fell profoundly asleep curled beside me on the couch. Her owner looked
on in disbelief and explained that she’s never seen the dog sleep that
profoundly. Certainly she’d never fallen asleep before beside a
relative stranger. That day was one of profound change for the little
dog. Thereafter, her ability to trust people increased substantially.
